KICKING BACK AT BAKE'S PLACE

You don't have to love jazz to enjoy a weekend evening at Bake's Place, but if you do ... you're in for a treat. This Issaquah jazz supper club hosts premier talent every weekend and provides a moody, rich blend of music, food and atmosphere. Different artists play every Friday and Saturday night, making each experience unique to the lucky group seated in what owners Craig and Laura Baker refer to as the "Living Room." The Living Room seats 72 comfortably in a candlelit, velvet-draped room, allowing patrons to feel like private guests at a luxurious dinner party.

On a recent night when the Don Lanphere trio performed, the place was packed. Though the audience was a mite reverent, it was quite a pleasure to sit with a group of aficionados in a smoke-free living room, sip a glass of (good) house red and hear every note that was played. Even better, between sets, Bake's Place became a private party, with audience and musicians mingling like old friends.

... with the intention of creating an atmosphere where musicians can feel at home and their audience "doesn’t feel miles away from the music." According to Baker, the three essential elements of live music are "the musicians, the music, and the audience. My purpose has always been to bring them together."

"Executive Chef Louis Bontempo is a maestro of the kitchen. His artful preparations are the perfect compliment to Bake's Place ambience. Like the musicians that perform here, Chef Bontempo's work is technically superior, skillfully presented, and ultimately fulfilling."

- Craig & Laura Baker, Bake's Place

"Bake's Place puts a premium on some of the finer things in life ... The intimate setting allows listeners to be up close to the music, watching the interaction of the musicians, becoming a part of the dramatic events as they unfold. As a musician, my own performances are elevated in such a setting. Craig and Laura Baker and their great staff treat the music with great care and love. Presenting jazz as the art form that it truly is ... Great moments and memories are in store for anyone who visits and everyone leaves a little richer from the experience."

Jeff Johnson - bassist

"I have played all over the world in many different venues. Bake's Place is one of my most enjoyable experiences."

Freddie Cole, pianist

Bake's is one of the best-kept secrets in the Pacific Northwest. The unique environment Craig and Laura have created transforms each would-be "performance" into a breathtakingly intimate encounter between artist and audience....
